ATMA Malayalees Seva Samithi proudly hosted its grand Onam Celebrations – Onakodi 2025 at MMR Gardens, Bowenpally, Hyderabad, marking a day of joy, tradition, and togetherness. The event brought together Malayalees from across the city, beautifully uniting the community under the spirit of Onam—Kerala’s most cherished and celebrated festival.
The celebrations were graced by the presence of several eminent personalities. The Chief Guest of the evening was Mr. Kannatt Surendran, respected Loka Kerala Sabha Member, Global Vice Chairman of the World Malayalee Council, and CEO of Kannatt Group of Companies. His presence added prestige to the occasion, reflecting the community’s commitment to tradition and progress.
Other distinguished guests included Mr. Praveen Kumar Nedungadi, CEO and Director of Incredibe India Projects Pvt. Ltd, Mr. Vinod Menon, MD of Vasco Scientific Products Pvt. Ltd, and Mr. K. Gopi, Chairman of Integrated Cleanroom Technologies Pvt. Ltd. Their participation highlighted the strong bond of Malayalees thriving in diverse professions yet deeply rooted in cultural values.
The evening also witnessed special recognitions. Renowned senior journalist and social worker Sri. C.G. Chandra Mohan was honored with the Icon of the Decade Award, instituted in memory of the former Secretary, Sri. K.K. Rajesh. Additionally, the Business Achievement Award was presented to Mr. Thomas John, Chairman of Professional Couriers Pvt. Ltd, and Mr. Vasu Menon, Chairman of Vasoco Scientific Equipments Pvt. Ltd, for their contributions to business excellence.
Onakodi 2025 was a true cultural spectacle, filled with artistic brilliance and festive energy. The highlight of the evening was the musical show by renowned South Indian playback singer Madhu Balakrishnan and his team. His soulful renditions of devotional hymns, classical pieces, and popular film songs touched the hearts of the audience, creating a wave of nostalgia and joy. Adding grandeur to the occasion, Kalamandalam Sivadas Marar and his team presented a spellbinding Pandimelam. The thunderous beats of the chenda reverberated through the venue, instantly transporting the audience to the festive landscapes of Kerala. ATMA Malayalees Seva Samithi also took the opportunity to nurture and inspire the younger generation. Students who excelled in their 10th and 12th examinations were honored with prizes, acknowledging their academic dedication and perseverance. This thoughtful gesture by the Samithi not only recognized their hard work but also encouraged others to aim for excellence, reinforcing the importance of education in community progress.
No Onam celebration is complete without the traditional Onasadya, and Onakodi 2025 ensured that the community relished this culinary heritage. The grand feast featured an elaborate spread of authentic Kerala delicacies such as avial, olan, thoran, sambar, pulissery, pachadi, and the much-loved payasam. The flavors and aromas transported everyone back to their roots, reminding them of festive gatherings back home in Kerala. Sharing this meal together not only satisfied appetites but also strengthened the bonds of togetherness.
